WHERE OLD MEETS NEW
Nestled in the remote Himalayan mountains is a tiny village called Girgaon, which once echoed with life and laughter. Today, just 1,026 residents remain. The young have left, and the elderly bemoan the machines that stole their youth.
WHERE HAVE THEY GONE?
Millions around the world, most of them women, are part of the textile industry.
Yet, artisan communities world over are struggling to keep their age old heritage alive. Girgaon is just one of many villages where lack of opportunities have created large scale migration to cities in search of employment, in a way forcing artisans to give up on the one thing that makes them experts - their craft.
As if in a parallel universe, is the emergence of the conscious shopper, looking for that unique, high quality product that also makes a difference. Fashion shouldn’t come at the price of the planet and its people. There has to be a better alternative!
Right there, JULAHAS found its purpose: to connect these universes in the best way possible.
GOOD BY DESIGN
The design aesthetics that most desire is often absent in the artisanal world. While people want to do good, they also want to look good.
At JULAHAS, the aesthetic, the ethical and the ecological come together to unlock the true potential of the artisanal communities to join the trillion dollar fashion industry.
THREAD THAT CONNECTS
Our team of young, global designers co-create with rural artisans, introducing to them contemporary design sensibilities and international production practices. Locally sourced natural materials and the in-house skills of our artisan partners complete the chain.
So while our artisans work with all their heart, we work extra hard on our design, ensuring that every JULAHAS product is modern yet timeless, trendy but seasonless, chic and so classic. Handcrafted. Heartfelt.
