WHERE OLD MEETS NEW
Nestled in the remote Himalayan mountains is a tiny village called Girgaon, which once echoed with life and laughter. Today, just 1,026 residents remain. The young have left, and the elderly bemoan the machines that stole their youth.
WHERE HAVE THEY GONE?
Millions around the world, most of them women, are part of the textile industry.
Yet, artisan communities world over are struggling to keep their age old heritage alive. Girgaon is just one of many villages where lack of opportunities have created large scale migration to cities in search of employment, in a way forcing artisans to give up on the one thing that makes them experts - their craft.
A BETTER ALTERNATIVE
Every day, women around the world make choices on what to wear while wanting to express their personal style. Our hope at Amsterdam-based JULAHAS is to offer you an individual style expression that will help you feel happier and look great, while making a positive impact on the planet and people.
GOOD BY DESIGN
JULAHAS’ story begins in remote Himalayan villages where our flagship product – the Cape – is made.
We have partnered with a network of rural artisan groups and global designers to create a range of free-size, versatile, handcrafted products of exceptional quality and beauty.
True to our belief in being a force of change, we create products that provide hundreds of rural artisans, especially women, a dignified and steady livelihood – all while using natural materials.
THREAD THAT CONNECTS
So while our artisans work with all their heart, we work extra hard on our design, ensuring that every JULAHAS product is modern yet timeless, trendy but seasonless, chic and so classic. Handcrafted. Heartfelt.
